Travelling to Guernsey for the Island Games? This is the form you need for your visitor firearms permit: Visitor Application for Firearms Permit [175kb]
Firearms are dangerous weapons. Gun ownership is a privilege, not a right. Guernsey Police are the licensing authority for firearm and shotgun certificates as well as for firearms dealers within the Bailiwick.
The possession and use of firearms is strictly regulated. Information on shotgun certificates and permits can be obtained from Guernsey Police on 222222. The importation of firearms is also regulated and further information can be obtained from the Guernsey Border Agency on 741417.
There are approximately three hundred firearms certificates in force within Guernsey and seven hundred shotgun certificates. There are also about fifteen registered firearms dealers in the island. The Guernsey Police undertake all relevant checks and supervise the applications for all firearms and shotgun certificates, and also carry out security checks to ensure that weapons are kept securely in appropriate storage facilities.

SAFETY
- Every time you pick up a gun, open it and see that it is not loaded
- Ensure that the safety catch is on at all times that the gun is not in use
- Never point a gun at anyone. When passing a gun to another person the stock should be handed over first with the breech open (where appropriate)
- When on the move always have a shotgun 'broken' and exercise extreme caution when climbing over a fence or hedge
- Defective guns and those with particularly light trigger pressures are a menace to everyone. Get a competent gunsmith to overhaul your gun annually
- In a vehicle, ensure that any guns and ammunition are well hidden from view
- Always leave the vehicle securely locked, even when left unattended for only a short time
