Your Right to Information

Guernsey Police is committed to providing individuals with access to their personal data. It is recognised that this can be for a number of purposes. These are outlined below.

Basic Disclosure

Required for employment purposes, a Basic Disclosure comprises all unspent convictions and cautions.

You apply for a Basic Disclosure in person at the Police Headquarters between 9.00am and 4.00pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays).

You will be required to complete a form that will ask for your name, previous names, address and date and place of birth.  You will be required to provide a form of photographic identification and there is a fee of £10, payable by cash or cheque. 

The Basic Disclosure will be sent to the address on the form within 4 weeks.

ACRO Police Clearance Certificate

The Association of Chief Police Officers' Criminal Records Office produce Police Clearance Certificates for travel or immigration to the following countries :-

  • Australia
  • Belgium
  • Canada
  • New Zealand
  • South Africa
  • United States of America

Subject Access Request

Under Section 7 of the Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2001 individuals can ask whether any information is held about them by an organisation and request a copy of that information.  This is known as the right of subject access.

Subject access can be used to obtain a full copy of your convictions and cautions or can give you access to other personal data we hold such as specific incidents involving yourself.

You can make a Subject Access Request either in person at the Police Headquarters between 9.00am and 4.00pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays).

You will be required to complete a form that will ask for your name, previous names, address and date and place of birth and to select what information you require.  You will be required to provide a form of photographic identification and, if submitting your request by post, a copy of a utility bill or bank statement along with verified copies of your ID.  For more information on how to get you ID verified please contact the Disclosure Department on (01481) 725111.  There is a fee of £10 payable in cash or cheque.

The information requested will be sent to the address given on the form within 60 days.
